Teledyne Technologies Inc. of Thousand Oaks on Friday said that its Dalsa subsidiary acquired a minority interest in a laser-based survey and digital imaging company.
The company, named Optech Inc., is in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, and it makes systems used in airborne terrestrial mapping and laser imaging as well as space-qualified sensors for orbital operations and planetary exploration. Its customers include companies in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure industries, as well as governments.
“Optech’s three dimensional lidar-based imaging systems are complementary to Teledyne’s growing line of X-ray, UV, visible and infrared sensors, cameras and software,” Chief Executive Robert Mehrabian said in a statement.
Terms of deal were not disclosed. Optech is Teledyne’s third strategic investment in the digital imaging space so far this year. It acquired Dalsa Corp. at the beginning of the year and last month acquired a majority interest in Nova Research Inc., a Solvang developer of infrared camera electronics.
Shares were up 36 cents, or one percent, to $52.07 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
