AeroVironment Inc. has received a $46.2 million order for drone aircraft and related equipment from the U.S. military.

The Monrovia developer of unmanned aircraft systems said late Tuesday that the order, made under an existing contract with the Army, included 123 new Raven unmanned aircraft systems, plus 339 digital retrofit kits for older aircraft, plus 186 digital retrofit kits for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The Raven is a hand-launched, 4.2 pound unmanned aircraft used for surveillance and reconnaissance.

“Raven systems have proven their value and reliability to military services across the U.S. Department of Defense,” Tom Herring, senior vice president and general manager for unmanned aircraft systems, said in a statement. “These backpackable, hand-launched unmanned systems provide situational awareness directly to our warfighters, increasing mission effectiveness and safety.”

Shares closed up 24 cents, or less than a percent, to $27.28 on the Nasdaq.
