SYLMAR

Juiced Up: Sylmar battery maker Quallion LLC has partnered with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power to test and develop a grid-scale battery project for renewable storage. DWP is also partnering with China’s BYD Co. The department and Quallion plan to develop a 5-10 megawatt power storage unit at DWP’s Pine Tree Wind Farm in the Tehachapi Mountains.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Private Offering: Breitburn Energy Partners LP, a downtown L.A.-based oil and gas company, is planning a private offering of $250 million in unsecured notes. The company said it intends to use the proceeds to reduce borrowings under its bank credit facility. The notes, which will be due in 2020, will be offered to only qualified institutional buyers.

HOLLYWOOD

Added Dimension: Legend 3D Inc., a San Diego visual effects firm specializing in the conversion of 2-D images to 3-D, has opened a client relations office at 6430 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.

PASADENA

Building Up: A division of Pasadena-based engineering services firm Tetra Tech Inc. has been awarded a $30 million contract to provide construction services for the Lameque Wind Power Project in New Brunswick, Canada. The Tetra Tech Canada Construction unit will be working for Acciona Energy North America.

BURBANK

Bicoastal Expansion: Welter Law Firm P.C. based in Herndon, Va. has opened an office in Burbank. The outpost, at 2600 W. Olive Ave., is only Welter’s second office, and will be run by associate Laura Chaimowitz.

New Location: The Heger Co., a commercial and industrial real estate services firm, has moved its L.A. market office to 5701 S. Eastern Ave. in Commerce.

WESTSIDE

SANTA MONICA

Made the Grade: Revolution Prep, a Santa Monica-based test preparation software and services company, has raised $15 million in its first institutional financing round, which was lead by London private equity firm Kennet Partners. Javier Rojas of Kennet will join Revolution Prep’s board.

Across Town: Minneapolis-based HGA Architects and Engineers is moving from Century City, where it has been since 2001, to expanded offices in Santa Monica. HGA’s Santa Monica address is 1918 Main St.
