Boeing C-17 line workers have overwhelmingly rejected a new labor contract, opening the possibility of a strike at the Long Beach plant.
Nearly 80 percent of workers voted against a proposed 46-month contract that included pay raises and a signing bonus but hiked employee medical and pension costs. Despite the rejection, the roughly 1,700 workers represented by Local 148 of the United Aerospace Workers do not yet plan to walk off the job, instead retaining hope that talks with management can resume in coming days.
The UAW, which represents workers primarily on the C-17 production floor, has been trying to reach an agreement with Boeing for more than a month. Their current contract ended Sunday, shortly after Boeing presented its “best and final” offer.
