Capstone Turbine Corp., whose miniturbine powers buses being tested by New York City Transit as a fuel-efficient alternative, may boost sales 66 percent this year and be profitable by 2012, Chief Executive Darren Jamison said.
Sales estimates in the mid-$50 million range for the year ending in March “are very obtainable and reasonable,” Jamison said today in an interview from the company’s headquarters in Chatsworth. Capstone posted revenue of $31.3 million in the previous 12 months and said its backlog jumped more than five-fold to $27.9 million.
Hybrid electric buses account for $5 million of Capstone’s current backlog, Jamison said. The company has bus contracts with Walt Disney Co. and other “smaller transit lines,” Jamison said.
