GIANT ANIMALS AND OBJECT EXHIBITS

Manufacturer:

California Art Products (North Hollywood)

Description:

A line of life-size and larger-than-life exhibits

Price:

Ranging from several hundred dollars to more than $30,000

California Art Products manufactures life-size and larger-than-life exhibit pieces, ranging from exotic animals such as rhinoceroses and elephants to a one-of-kind giant basketball. The pieces are custom made for museums and other public spaces, as well as for the homes of private collectors. Most models are made of fiberglass, but the company recently did a 19-foot diameter basketball for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers that weighed 3,000 pounds and cost $34,000. The basketball, which was built to suspend from a ceiling, took six weeks to construct; less complicated pieces can be built faster.

NOHANDS MOUSE

Manufacturer:

Hunter Digital (Los Angeles)

Description:

Foot-controlled computer mouse

Price:

$315.95

Can’t beat carpal tunnel syndrome? Hunter Digital claims it has the answer with its NoHands Mouse, which provides foot pedals to navigate a computer and surf the Internet. The mouse system has two interchangeable pedals, one with a pressure-sensitive mechanism to control cursor speed and direction and a second that is used as a clicking device. The system allows users to type and control the cursor without taking their hands off the keyboard. Each pedal is designed to accommodate an average-sized foot and is made of heavy-duty plastic shell. The NoHands Mouse is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. The mouse works best with a good sitting posture, according to the manufacturer.
