Governor: No Tax Increase in Second Term

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared Thursday he will not increase taxes as governor if he is re-elected, establishing a key contrast in his November re-election bid against Democrat Phil Angelides, who has proposed raising taxes on the state’s highest earners and corporations.



Jacobs Lands Contract for New Plant in India


Construction-services company Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. said it received a contract to provide services to southeastern, India-based Chemplast Sanmar Ltd. Jacobs did not disclose financial terms of the contract but said that construction of the new plant is estimated to be around $110 million and will be completed by 2008. The plant will be constructed at a greenfield site in Cuddalore, India and will produce 160,000 tons a year of polyvinylchloride (PVC), a plastic widely used in commercial and industrial applications. Jacobs shares rose 55 cents and closed at $79.66 in trading on the New York Stock Exchange.



Salem Communications Sells Florida Station to Cox


Salem Communications Corporation said today that it has agreed to sell Jacksonville, Fla.-based WBGB-FM to Atlanta-based Cox Radio for about $7.7 million in cash. Camarillo-based Salem is a Christian and family-themed radio broadcaster and magazine publisher and owns and operates 103 radio stations.



DaVita Selects New CFO


El Segundo-based DaVita Inc., a provider of kidney dialysis services, said late Wednesday that it had selected Mark Harrison to be the company’s chief financial officer starting Sept. 1. DaVita’s controller, Gary Beil, has been serving as the company’s acting CFO. Beil resumed the acting CFO mantle in May with the departure of finance chief Thomas Kelly. Harrison had been CFO at Allina Hospitals & Clinics in Minneapolis, which he joined in 2003.
