Kim Jakwerth has been named to head Marleah Leslie & Associates’ new music division. She will retain her title as vice president.

Apparel

Jeff Turpin has been appointed president of Rose Marie Reid, Sirena Kids and Hot Water. He will be based at the South El Monte corporate headquarters and is responsible for the sales, production and merchandising of the Rose Marie Reid missy swimwear, Sirena Kids girls’ swimwear and Hot Water juniors’ swimwear divisions. Turpin previously was president of the Sassafras Group at Sirena Apparel Group.

Banking and Finance

Mark McEachen has been named president of Transamerica Asset Management. He will be based in Los Angeles and will be responsible for structured settlements, financial products and stable value investments. McEachen previously was vice president and treasurer of Transamerica Corp.

Lindsy E. Strait has been appointed senior vice president, chief operating officer and chief technology officer at Imperial Technology Solutions, a division of Los Angeles-based Imperial Bank. Strait will be responsible for internal operations and product engineering and development. He previously served as president and chief executive at Applied Systems Science Institute.

Peter Wu has been appointed president of GBC Bancorp and General Bank. GBC Bancorp is headquartered in Los Angeles and is the parent company of General Bank. Wu was one of the founders of General Bank and he has served as chief operating officer. He has also served as executive vice president and director of the bank and GBC Bancorp.

Construction

Rick Fivekiller has been appointed vice president of corporate business development in the Los Angeles office of O’Brien Kreitzberg. Fivekiller will be responsible for national business development activities, with particular emphasis on the private sector. He previously was responsible for business development in the West Coast for a major construction and real estate firm.

Tom Paradise has joined Playa Vista as vice president of operations. Paradise will be responsible for the overall operations of Playa Vista, coordinating the work of teams responsible for residential and commercial development, infrastructure and planning. He previously was a real estate consultant to Goldman Sachs & Co.

Consulting

Charles S. Swartz has joined the media and entertainment group at Andersen Consulting as business development director. He will be based in Los Angeles and will be working to develop relationships with entertainment and media companies. Swartz previously was program manager for UCLA Extension’s department of entertainment studies and performing arts.

Entertainment

Mark Badagliacca has been promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer of Hollywood-based Paramount Pictures. Badagliacca will be responsible for corporate finance, treasury, accounting and financial and strategic planning for Paramount Pictures’ motion picture and television groups. He previously was senior vice president of planning for Paramount Pictures. In addition, Charles Berg has been named vice president of operations for Paramount Home Video. Berg will oversee all aspects of the manufacturing and distribution of video products. He previously was director of operations at Microprose.

Alan Dettelbach has been appointed president of Mad River Post, a post production house. The company has its headquarters in Santa Monica. Dettlelbach previously was with Troy & Gould Professional Corp.

Ira Koslow has joined Krost/Chapin Management as president of the newly formed music division. Koslow previously was president of Peter Asher Management.

Paul K. Woolley has been named vice president of international licensing for MGM Home Entertainment. He will plan and manage the licensing for the Orion home video library in all international territories outside of the U.S. and Canada. Woolley previously was senior vice president at Epic Productions Inc.

Health

Marc R. Goldstein has been appointed chief operating officer of City of Hope Cancer Center’s management services organization and vice president of business development. He will oversee business development, managed care and physician relations for both organizations. He formerly served on the executive management team of the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Philip J. Rapa has been appointed chief executive of the Whittier-based Institute for Healthcare Advancement. He will be responsible for assisting the organization’s board in program planning, fund raising and development of the board’s policies. Rapa previously was executive director of the Center of Excellence in Health Care Management at the University of Southern California.

Insurance

Mark Zwickel has been appointed executive vice president and commercial insurance division manager of Lockton Insurance Brokers Inc., a Los Angeles subsidiary of Lockton Cos. Zwickel handles Lockton’s market relationships and is in charge of recruiting Lockton associates. He formerly served as senior vice president and director of the retail brokerage and health care divisions for Jardine Insurance Brokers.

Law

Sandra Goldstein has joined Pircher, Nichols & Meeks as an associate in the real estate transaction department. The national real estate law firm is based in Los Angeles. Goldstein previously served as vice president of corporate administration and legal affairs and as corporate secretary for Children’s Wonderland Inc.

Kathy A. Jorrie has joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP as a partner in the Los Angeles office. She will be working in the business litigation practice group as well as the bankruptcy, finance & commercial, intellectual property and real estate litigation practice groups. Jorrie previously was a partner at Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine. In addition, James B. Hicks has joined the firm as partner. He will be working with Jorrie. Hicks previously was partner at Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine.

Norma J. Williams has joined the recently merged firm of Hanna & Morton and Thorpe & Thorpe as a partner. The firm provides advice in real estate law. Williams previously headed her own firm, Williams & Associates.

Printing

Paul R. David has been appointed president of Bowne of Los Angeles in Dominguez Hills. He will be responsible for the company’s financial printing activity in six Western states. David previously served as executive vice president of sales for the region.

Retail

Carey Carrington has been appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer of Los Angeles-based California Pizza Kitchen. He previously was chief financial officer of Spaghetti Warehouse Inc.

Randy McCullough has been promoted to chief executive of Monrovia-based Barry’s Jewelers Inc. McCullough previously served as senior vice president of merchandising for the company.

Telecommunications

Jack M. Scanlon has been named chief executive of Global Crossing Ltd. Based in Beverly Hills, Global Crossing Ltd. is an independent provider of undersea fiber-optic telecommunications systems. Scanlon previously was president and general manager of the cellular networks and space sector at Motorola Inc.
