Northern Trust Wealth Management named Abel Montañez to serve as its new West Region president.
Montañez brings 25 years of experience in the financial services industry to Northern Trust, where he will oversee the teams handling investment management, trust and estate planning, private and business banking and financial consulting. He is based out of both the firm’s Century City and Pasadena offices. Prior to Northern Trust, he served as City National Bank’s executive vice president and head of private banking and wealth management. He also worked at Wells Fargo for 14 years, serving as regional managing director and senior wealth adviser.
“Abel has a strong command of how wealth is evolving,” said Jason Tyler, president of Northern Trust Wealth Management group. “Abel’s experience and deep engagement in the region make him the right leader for Northern Trust.”
‘Capture this momentum’
Montañez succeeds Marc Cosentino, who retired on July 1 after serving three decades in numerous roles with the wealth management firm. Cosentino also was president of the bank’s Pacific Northwest and Northern California regions.
“The Western states reflect the convergence innovation, entrepreneurship and generational transitions. He will help to capture this momentum and invigorate a region that is defining modern wealth.”
Montañez also serves on the corporate advisory board for the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where he earned his master’s in business administration and bachelor’s degree. He also played on the Trojan’s baseball team that won the NCAA National Championship in 1998.
“The West is home to some of the country’s most dynamic entrepreneurs, multigenerational families and mission-driven institutions,” Montañez said. “I’m excited to build on Northern Trust’s legacy here and address the complexity and ambitions of our clients.”
