Under his leadership, Grainge has dramatically improved the financial performance of Universal Music by significantly increasing the company’s revenues and profitability. In 2011, he led UMG’s successful acquisition of the recorded music assets of the British music company EMI, revitalizing Capitol Records, and, in the process, further strengthening UMG’s position as the global leader in music. Grainge bolstered his music publishing arm buying artist catalogs. Universal distributes recorded music from Taylor Swift, K-pop sensation BTS, the “Encanto” soundtrack, Drake, The Weeknd and the Beatles catalog. Grainge was appointed chief executive of Universal Music in 2010 and promoted in 2011 to Chair and CEO. He is based in Santa Monica.
