Riley founded B. Riley in 1997, currently serving as the financial services firm’s co-chief executive and chair. The Sawtelle firm’s stock decreased in value by about 90% as of early May in the wake of a Securities and Exchange investigation announced last year. Through selling off a number of businesses and partnering with Oaktree Capital for debt financing, B. Riley has been working to mitigate its debt. Prior to 2024, B. Riley had been recognized as a fast-growing force in the industry having raised its market cap from just over $1 billion in 2020 to $2.5 billion in 2021. B. Riley’s platform operates in a variety of spaces including asset management and investment banking.
