Supplement Maker Rebrands

Westwood-based supplement maker ChromaDex switches names to match its product, Niagen Bioscience.

Westwood-based dietary supplement company ChromaDex Corp. recently changed its name to Niagen Bioscience Inc. and its Nasdaq ticker symbol to NAGE.

The name change reflects the company’s longstanding focus on marketing a dietary supplement product it developed and calls Niagen. The supplement is intended to reduce the health impacts of aging, which in turn is intended to boost longevity.

The company was founded as ChromaDex back in 2000 with the aim of researching and commercializing Niagen, which boosts levels of the compound nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD in the human body. In the ensuing years, ChromaDex honed its research through extensive laboratory and clinical work and introduced variations on its main product.

Close to $100M in sales

Last year, the publicly traded company came within a whisker of notching $100 million in sales and has about 100 full-time in-house employees.

Rob Fried, the company’s chief executive, said this year was finally the time for the name change to Niagen Bioscience.

“This is more than a name change; this is a turning point in our story,” Fried said. “We have achieved several scientific, financial and strategic milestones. As Niagen Bioscience, the global leader in NAD+ science and commerce, we have the opportunity to help every living being around the world age better.”

Fried added that another driving force behind the name change was to make the company more appealing to potential partners in research and distribution.
