USC to Open 2nd Pasadena Clinic

Keck Medicine of USC opens a second outpatient medical center in Pasadena.

Keck Medicine of USC has announced it will open a second outpatient medical center across from Huntington Hospital in the heart of Pasadena. The four-story, 100,000-square-foot medical office building located at 590 S. Fair Oaks Ave. will be just one block away from Keck Medicine of USC’s existing outpatient clinic.

Patients of the new $250 million center will have access to a wide range of procedures, including Keck Medicine’s advanced biology-guided radiation therapy.

“This new location – our largest and most advanced outpatient setting – will bring even more of our research-based clinical care to the Pasadena area, where many of our patients live and work,” Rod Hanners, chief executive of Keck Medicine, said in the April 9 announcement. “The new location offers state-of-the-art technology and access to acclaimed specialists who translate medical discoveries into groundbreaking treatments and cures.”

Together with the existing clinic, the new medical office center will expand Keck Medicine’s capacity and reach in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, the announcement said.

“The new Pasadena medical office building doubles down on our commitment to the health of our community, allowing patients to visit one location for a variety of health care needs while providing access to the high-quality care only an academic health system can offer,” said Smitha Ravipudi, chief executive of USC Care Medical Group and of Keck Medicine ambulatory care services.

Wide range of services offered

The new center will include a wide array of medical outpatient services, including cardiovascular and oncology care, infusion therapy, orthopedics and spine care, outpatient surgeries, physical therapy and imaging services.

The center will also offer treatment for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and autoimmune skin conditions such as psoriasis.

On the oncology front, the center will feature a recently developed technology: biology-guided radiation therapy. According to the Keck Medicine announcement, this involves sending real-time signals about the location of cancer cells, helping radiation oncologists to better target those cells while avoiding damage to adjacent healthy cells. The therapy recently received breakthrough device designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is currently approved for certain patients with lung and bone tumors.
