Guerin inherited most of her wealth from her late father, Nathan Shapell, after he left her a 43% stake in his homebuilding company, Shapell Industries, which famously developed Porter Ranch. The company was founded in 1955 by Shapell along with his brother David Shapell, and brother-in-law, Max Webb. Following Shapell’s death in 2007, Shapell Industries was sold to Pennsylvania-based homebuilding company Toll Brothers for $1.6 billion in 2013. Aside from inheritance, Guerin also owns commercial real estate properties.
Charitable Giving: Guerin is deeply involved with the Cedars-Sinai Health System and in 2021, her Shapell Guerin Family Foundation donated $100 million to establish a children’s health care center.
Family: Shapell was a Polish-born American survivor of the Holocaust. In 2013, the Guerin Family Pavilion opened at the Skirball Cultural Center, a Jewish educational institution in Brentwood.
