Los Angeles Superior Court judge has denied Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg’s request for a court order to overturn the firing of exec director Doug Allen and the abolition of SAG’s negotiating committee.
Judge James Chalfant ruled against Rosenberg following a one-hour hearing Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Chalfant said the guild’s national board acted legally when they used a “written assent” to fire Allen and appoint a task force to conduct the feauture-primetime contract talks after eliminating the negotiating committee. “The bylaws permit the board to exactly what it did,” he added.
Rosenberg and three board members had filed suit Tuesday against SAG, alleging that the board’s moderate majority had violated state corporate law and guild bylaws. Eric George, an attorney for Rosenberg, said he would immediately appeal Chalfant’s decision to deny the request for a temporary restraining order.
