Johnson Fain, the award-winning, Los Angelesbased Architecture, Urban Design + Planning, and Interiors firm is pleased to announce the advancement of 5 Principals to firm Partners.


JUAN CARLOS BEGAZO, AIA

Juan joined Johnson Fain in 1985 and his professional experience spans a diverse range of project types for public and private clients from architecture and urban design to city planning and entitlement processes. As Partner, Juan manages major urban design projects and provides leadership to the firm’s urban design and planning team. His career has been exemplary in its focus on large mixed-use urban infill projects, and has included cultural, educational, and research campuses, as well as transit-oriented developments. His work has been recognized with multiple awards by the local and national AIA, local and state APA, Progressive Architecture in the professional press, and international design competitions. Selected projects include San Francisco’s Mission Bay Master Plan, the New Town of Kapolei in Oahu, the ‘Main Street’ master plan at UC Irvine, and the First Americans Museum master plan in Oklahoma City, which has been recognized with a 2023 ULI Americas Award for Excellence.


STEVE H. CHUNG, AIA, NCARB

As a seasoned and accomplished architect with over 23 years of experience, Steve’s proficiency of building codes, systems, and technologies, makes him an invaluable leader on intricate base and specialty building projects at the firm. Steve’s leadership acumen ensures that Johnson Fain’s project teams provide cutting-edge technical systems and seamless transitions throughout all project phases leading to a successful project delivery. During his tenure at the firm, Steve has led numerous landmark projects such as Christ Cathedral, Constellation Park, Genentech, and he is currently spearheading the 37 story commercial office tower, Century City Center, the future headquarters of Creative Artists Agency (CAA).


JAMES (JED) DONALDSON, AIA

For over two decades, JED has been designing large-scale, complex projects for a diverse mix of building typologies, including multifamily residential, office, education, biotech, civic, cultural, and mixed-use developments. In his leadership role at Johnson Fain, his position is a balance between client delivery, consultant management, and building design. Throughout his distinguished career, JED has honed a deep expertise in architecture, advanced computer modeling, and sustainable design. He is currently on the Board of AIA Los Angeles and Board President of Passive House California. JED steers the teams now building Citrus Commons, Figueroa Eight, and designing Metro’s Bus Rapid Transit Station design standards.


AMBER LANGLOIS

Amber has been an integral part of the leadership team at Johnson Fain for over 10 years. Her noteworthy and extensive architectural and project management background includes all aspects of the design, production, and construction administration process from concept through construction. She has a keen understanding of multiple building types in various
business sectors, such as multifamily residential, mixed-use, hospitality, transportation, education and civic. Amber has been a key project team leader in the management and delivery of several of Johnson Fain’s most significant projects such as Opus One, Figueroa Eight, Citrus Commons, Metro Bus Rapid Transit Station Design, and College Station.


SUMA SPINA, IIDA, AIA

As a hands-on, approachable leader, Suma oversees Johnson Fain’s interiors team in the design and planning of architectural interiors projects including commercial office, education and cultural facilities, hospitality, multifamily residential, and civic developments. With over 25 years of interior design and architecture expertise, her innovative project approach has resulted in many of Johnson Fain’s landmark projects, including the award-winning First Americans Museum, Michelin-starred Knife Pleat restaurant, Opus One Winery, City National Bank branch banks and offices, and the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning in the historic Hall of Records building.
