The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM), based in Pasadena, is devoted first and foremost to offering an outstanding, forward-thinking medical education, making an impact for future physicians as well as the greater community. The school’s curriculum is built on the three pillars of Biomedical Science, Clinical Science, and Health Systems Science. Students think broadly about the ways care can be more effective for everyone and learn how to advocate for better health in homes, schools, workplaces, neighborhoods, and society.

The school incorporates many of the most innovative and effective educational practices available today and gives students the opportunity to learn from the physicians and care teams in Kaiser Permanente’s integrated healthcare system in Southern California and beyond. The school’s future physicians learn the knowledge and skills essential to providing the highest quality patient care and to leading the transformation of the nation’s healthcare so that all people thrive.

With a vision to create a diverse community of compassionate healers with ser-vice-learning as part of the core curriculum the school reimagines the traditional physician education experience beyond traditional medical settings by incorporating an intentional, carefully curated approach to medical education. Being based in the greater Los Angeles area, KPSOM extends its reach of the school into surrounding communities by integrating its service-curriculum and activities into the region. KPSOM has also pledged to waive all tuition and fees for the first five classes entering between 2020 through 2024, with the promise to train new doctors to improve the health of patients and communities.
