ROBERT STONE
Chief Executive Officer, Helen and Morgan Chu Chief Executive Officer Distinguished Chair City of Hope
Robert Stone is the CEO of City of Hope (COH), one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the US and one of the leading research centers for diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses. Stone’s strategic acumen, empathy, and visionary leadership have driven COH’s rapid evolution and transformation into a national system that now serves more than 134,000 patients annually across the country, an increase from 83,300 patients in 2018.
Under Stone, COH has redefined cancer care, going beyond leading-edge treatment and research and accelerating opportunities for high-impact discovery, while not losing sight of what is most important to him: putting patients at the center of all that the organization does. With a focus on the patient-centric definition of value – survival, quality of life, experience and a return to normalcy and respect – COH has set the standard to meet these expectations through its ambitious acquisition of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), further enabling its research, supportive care, precision medicine, and partnership with community oncologists and government to treat the whole patient – not just their cancer.
This recent evolution of COH builds on Stone’s 25 years of mission-driven leadership within the organization. He understands that providing optimal cancer care in a way that humanizes the experience and reduces treatment-related and financial toxicities is what sets COH apart. His vision and direction are exemplified through COH’s successes and by the patients, families and communities who have been given real hope through the organization’s innovative and comprehensive care.
