LA500 2023: Martin Jarmond

Director of Athletics, UCLA

The 43-year-old took over in May of 2020 as the first African-American in this role at the school. He is also a major driver in moving (with USC) to end a 96-year alliance with the Pacific-12 Conference and join the Big Ten Conference in the summer of 2024. Jarmond’s influence is felt in UCLA’s football program reaching out to play host at the Rose Bowl to teams in the historically Black universities as a way to draw more L.A. inner-city students to the school’s brand and mission. UCLA’s women’s soccer championship last December marked the school’s 120th national title, most in the NCAA.
