Carlos Darquea has been appointed executive vice president, creative director and partner at Ahlman & Associates in Westlake Village. He will be responsible for the creative end of all accounts including the development of strategic positioning, concepts, visual marketing, advertising, broadcast, graphic design, copy and production. Prior to joining Ahlman, Darquea was creative vice president of marketing at Victoria’s Secret.
Asbury Communications in Hollywood has named Mike Garfinkel senior publicist. He will oversee the company’s public relations efforts on behalf of clients who specialize in the areas of film, TV and multimedia production. Garfinkel was a freelance writer prior to joining Asbury.

Jennifer Openshaw has joined Bank of America in Los Angeles as vice president and business development officer in its investment management service group, where she will focus on California’s government agency market. Prior to joining Bank of America, she served in the state Treasurer’s office where she handled communications and public affairs under Treasurer Matt Fong and former Treasurer Kathleen Brown.
Richard Rushton has been named senior vice president and head of consumer lending for Sanwa Bank California in Los Angeles. Rushton was a senior consultant for American Management Systems prior to joining Sanwa Bank.
Jeffrey H. Anderson has been named vice president of the Los Angeles office of Mellon Ventures Inc., a subsidiary of Mellon Bank Corp. He will be responsible for identifying, analyzing and executing private equity buyout and venture capital-related investment opportunities. Before joining Mellon, Anderson was an associate at BankAmerica Capital, a subsidiary of BankAmerica Corp.
Los Angeles-based Union Bank of California has appointed David I. Matson director of finance. Matson was executive vice president and head of institutional and deposit markets in the bank’s commercial financial services group. He will oversee all financial operations and management reporting systems for the bank and investor relations.
Barbara G. Brewer has joined Union Bank of California as a vice president in the personal trust division. She is a senior trust administrator at the bank’s Los Angeles office. Prior to joining Union Bank, Brewer was with Security Pacific Bank in the trust division.
Glendale Federal Bank has promoted Sharon K. Winston to executive vice president in her position as director of Human Resources. She is responsible for managing the policies, program content, budget and long-range and short-term strategic planning efforts of the bank’s personnel department.

Transactional Marketing Consultants of Los Angeles has named Duncan Murray vice president of client services. He will oversee operation of TMC’s website which delivers information to the firm’s clients. Murray was with The Walt Disney Co. prior to joining TMC.
Entertainment/Media
Linda Goldin has been promoted to vice president of creative advertising for MGM Distribution Co. in Santa Monica. She will coordinate all in-house and vendor activities in the creation and execution of print campaigns. Goldin will also oversee print-advertising budgets and the production of special MGM photo shoots. She previously served as executive director of print production for MGM Distribution Co. where she oversaw all newspaper print campaigns for the division within the U.S. and Canada.
Michelle Manning has been promoted to president of production of Paramount Pictures’ Motion Picture Group in Hollywood, a part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. She will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the development and production of Paramount’s motion pictures. Robert Weiss has been promoted to vice president of the Western division for domestic distribution of Paramount Pictures’ Motion Picture Group. He will be responsible for supervising all sales and licensing activities for Paramount’s motion pictures in the Western region.
Health Care
Frances Hanckel has been promoted to executive vice president of Memorial Health Services in Long Beach where she will be responsible for the redesign of the health system into a more comprehensive integrated health care delivery system. She was chief executive at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center prior to her promotion. Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Anaheim Memorial Medical Center, will replace Hanckel at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
Sue M. Mote has been appointed director of business office consulting for Healthcare Practice Enhancement Network Inc. in Los Angeles. She will be responsible for consulting in the areas of medical practice management, practice operations enhancement, billing and collection turnaround and reimbursement analyses.
High Tech / Aerospace
Gene Myers has been named general manager of New Castle Operations of Chatsworth Products Inc. Prior to joining Chatsworth Products, Myers was vice president of Middle East operations at Mirad International Corp. The Westlake Village-based firm manufactures products used to organize, store and secure computer and communications equipment.
Cynthia J. Brinkley has joined Pacific Bell in Los Angeles as an area vice president of external affairs. She worked for SBC Communications, Pacific’s Bell’s new parent company, prior to joining Pacific Bell. Brinkley will direct executive directors and directors of public affairs.
Ameron International Corp. in Pasadena has named three new executives to its corporate staff. James R. McLaughlin has been promoted to vice president and treasurer. He was with GenCorp Inc. where he served as director of operational analysis, prior to joining Ameron. Dewey H. Norton joined Ameron as vice president and controller. He was vice president of finance at Baldwin Filters before joining Ameron. The new vice president of special projects is William L. Baldwin, who joined Ameron after serving as president of Speedring Inc.
Robert W. Lautz Jr. has been named first chief executive officer of Santa Monica-based ListingLink, a real estate resource on the Internet. Lautz served as CEO of IndeNet Inc. prior to joining the staff of The Los Angeles Times, which manages ListingLink for The Times Mirror Co.
Insurance
Glyn J. Nelson has been named manager of the Los Angeles office for Commonwealth Land Title Co., a subsidiary of Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Co. Based in Glendale, he will oversee operations throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. Nelson is a vice president with the insurance company. Prior to joining the Glendale office, he was a manager for Commonwealth’s Santa Clara County office.
Legal
John B. Clark and Timothy L. Pierce have joined the Los Angeles office of Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges LLP as partners in the construction and government contracts practice. Clark’s area of expertise includes commercial, construction contract litigation and government contracts. Pierce practices in the areas of construction defect, design defect and contract claims. Cheryl L. Schreck has joined the firm as a partner in the labor and employment practice group.

Ann Sewill has been appointed director of The Enterprise Foundation’s Los Angeles office. Sewill was former assistant general manager of the Los Angeles Housing Department. She will administer Enterprise programs including grants, loans and equity financing.
Real Estate
Catellus Development Corp. has appointed Anthony J. Manos vice president of industrial development for the Southwest region. His responsibilities include development of industrial properties. Glen Allen, who formally held the position, has been appointed vice president of construction services. Manos, who will work out of the company’s Los Angeles office, will oversee construction of the company’s industrial buildings on a national basis and pursue third-party development and construction management opportunities for Catellus.
Ronald E. Laime has joined Pasadena-based Parsons Corp. as vice president of construction. He will be responsible for overseeing all construction activities of the firm. Before joining Parsons, Laime was vice president and manager of construction for Bechtel Construction Inc.

American CinemaStores Inc. of Los Angeles has appointed Kathy Van Ness president and CEO. She most recently served as president of wholesale businesses of Authentic Fitness Corp., where she managed brands such as Speedo, Anne Cole and Catalina.
