Award

The Los Angeles Business Journal has been named the nation’s best regional business weekly by the Association of Area Business Publications.

The award, one of four the Business Journal received during the AABP’s conference last week in Washington, D.C., was for overall excellence. Last year, the paper was runner-up in the category.

In their comments about the Business Journal, the judges wrote: “This weekly stands head and shoulders above the rest of the entrants. Its special issue on the distribution of local wealth is public affairs economic reporting at its best. Its solid writing makes every story important and interesting, and leaves the reader eager for the next one.”

In addition to being named best newspaper, the Business Journal received first prize in the explanatory journalism category for its examination of L.A.’s income classes. The paper also won two third prizes for best overall design and for best coverage of local breaking news.

There were 428 entries in the AABP awards competition. The contest was coordinated by the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
