Friedman co-founded Canyon in 1990. Before that, he was director of
capital markets for high-yield and private placements at Drexel Burnham
Lambert Group Inc. Canyon more than a year ago entered a joint
venture to launch the development of a Utah multifamily community
worth around $113 million and announced that it provided a $47.4
million senior loan to an affiliate of BPM Real Estate Group. The loan
was provided for the recapitalization of an upscale hotel in downtown
Portland, Oregon. This year, Canyon issued a 404 million-Euro collateralized
loan obligation, its first foray into the European market.
