Powell’s first full year as the successor to retired chief executive Kevin
Payne allowed him to put his 35 years of experience to use in pushing
the company’s Pathway 2045 data-driven analysis on how a transition
to more carbon neutrality and clean the electricity grid. “We are in
a central, pivotal place with all the components that need to come
together,” he said during the Electric Power Research Electrification
2022 conference in North Carolina. Powell said SCE is investing about
$5 billion annually to maintain, expand and harden its system, with
about $1 billion of that focused on reducing wildfire risks. Powell has a
degree in chemical engineering and an MBA from UCLA.
