IHOP Corp. said Monday that it has appointed Greggory Kalvin its new controller, effective immediately. Kalvin previously served as chief accounting officer for Los Angeles-based voicemail, fax and e-mail services provider J2 Global Communications Inc.


Electro Rent Corp. got a boost Monday after the company reported quarterly growth in both profit and sales due to higher demand overseas. Electro Rent reported fourth quarter net income for the quarter ending May 31 of $6.2 million (24 cents per share), a 9-percent increase from $5.7 million (22 cents) from the same period a year earlier. The growth was mainly due to growth in its European and China operations, the company said. Revenue for the Van Nuys-based electronic equipment renter rose 7 percent to $33 million. For the full year Electo Rent posted net income of $21 million (81 cents), a 5-percent dip from $22 million (86 cents) from the year earlier. It was hurt by a higher tax rate and a 16 percent increase in operating expenses, the company said. Revenue for the full year rose 9 percent to $125 million. Shares in Electro Rent rose 43 cents, or 3.3 percent, to $13.64 in afternoon trading Monday on the Nasdaq.
