HNTB has named Mike Hess, PE, division operations officer for its West Division. Hess brings over 26 years of project management, contracting and leadership experience to the new role. Based in HNTB’s Orange County office, Hess will oversee business operations, contracting and delivery of infrastructure projects across the five-state West Division.

“As we continue to grow our staff and expand our core services to help solve complex transportation challenges in the West Division, I am pleased to welcome Mike to his important new role as operations officer,” said Wayne Feuerborn, West Division president. “His business and leadership skills, combined with being exceptionally well versed in our firm’s culture and core processes, will be a benefit as we continue to serve clients and deliver successful programs.”

Hess most recently served as West Division contracting director and supported the firm’s Orange County office leadership team. He joined HNTB in 1994, starting his professional career as a bridge engineer in the Overland Park, Kansas, office. He served in a variety of roles including project manager, client service leader, pursuit champion, office leader, Central Division operations officer and chief business process officer.

Matt Dixon, PE, joined HNTB as senior project manager in Los Angeles, leading transit and rail projects and participating on leadership teams throughout the firm’s Western Region. He will focus on design coordination, track design, operations and operations simulation.

“Matt brings a high level of experience and expertise to HNTB and will play an integral role in advancing our rail transit programs,” said Francesco Cantatore, HNTB project director and associate vice president. “His more than two decades of experience working on major projects around the country bring additional expertise to our clients for current and future rail projects.”

Dixon has served in a variety of management and technical roles in his career. He was the engineer of record for final design and on-site representative during construction on Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Southwest Yard and the track lead for the bridging documents for the East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor.

Most recently, he was the site/civil lead for the 30% design for a high-speed rail project’s yard and shops and supported many other LA Metro efforts such as systems integration testing on the Regional Connector.
