When PR Was Hard
You might excuse longtime Hollywood publicist Dan Harary if he rolls his eyes when a young public relations manager complains how hard the job is. He started 40 years ago – as in before fax machines – when he had to mail or hand deliver press releases or read them to each reporter over the phone. “I tell young publicists today, ‘Try getting your client into the New York Times or on CNN or into People Magazine! That’s hard! Just Tweeting some news that takes you four minutes? That’s easy.’” Harary is out with a new book, “Flirting With Fame,” about his career. He had a book signing July 9 at Barnes & Noble at the Grove…Since Kyle Kazanjian-Amory started with a stand-up comedy act in a Los Angeles backyard in 2017, his company has grown to a national network of 40 producers creating pop-up shows in their respective cities. But comedy is a serious business and the company, Don’t Tell Comedy, recently hired Brett Kushner, the executive producer of Vox Media’s podcast network, as chief operating officer. Other than overseeing operations, Kushner’s mission is to expand the growing company’s digital offerings and explore new content.
