Batchlor was instrumental in opening Martin Luther King Jr. Community
Hospital in Willowbrook in 2015. The nonprofit serves 1.3 million residents in South Los Angeles. MLK Community Healthcare encompasses the hospital, the MLK Community Medical Group, community health programs and a fundrasing foundation. Early last year, MLK Community Hospital became ground zero for treating patients with Covid-19 in Los Angeles County. The hospital’s location amid low-income communities with lots of essential workers meant an influx of Covid patients, stretching the hospital’s capacity to the limit and beyond. Batchlor previously served as chief medical officer of L.A. Care Health Plan, a public health plan that covers underserved Los Angeles County residents.
