After offloading the Fox’s major studio operations to the Walt Disney Co. three years ago, Murdoch sits atop the slimmed-down Fox TV broadcasting and cable news company and separately the News Corp. publications and books including the Wall Street Journal. He is heir apparent to his 91-year-old conservative father and there’s speculation on how his personal outlook might eventually influence news operations. At Fox, Murdoch navigated a later-stage entry into video streaming two years ago buying Tubi, the free-to-consumers ad-supported service that now thrives. In December, Fox bought indie Mar Vista Entertainment to supply content to Tubi and also makes small venture-capital-like investments in digital media.
