As a clinician leader, Santhi Iyert Kumar MD’s purpose has been to design care delivery systems that ensure high quality and safe care that honors the patient-physician relationship and respects our common humanity. Her work has focused primarily on the implementation of care practices that optimize teamwork and patient care in the intensive care unit. Among Dr. Kumar’s most notable accomplishments has been the implementation of a multifaceted, interprofessional care bundle in multiple ICUs, which resulted in improved ICU outcomes and increased patient-family engagement. She served as principal investigator in a national quality improvement collaborative aimed at implementing this best practice bundle.
