Digital content studio Gunpowder & Sky is accelerating its global activities with the launch of an international headquarters in London.
The international office will be headed by Randel Bryan, the firm’s managing director, international. He will report to President Floris Bauer, who works out of Gunpowder’s Playa Vista headquarters with co-founder Van Toffler, the digital content studio said in a Monday statement.
Bryan previously served as managing director of Endemol Shine Beyond U.K., the United Kingdom-based arm of global premium channel network Endemol Beyond, which Bauer was instrumental in launching during his time at Endemol, according to the statement.
“We see tremendous opportunity in international markets with more OTT services merging, and a clear demand for more youth-focused content,” Bauer said in a statement. “As our first international hub, the U.K. market was a logical step, being well known for having an extraordinary creative talent pool and producing content that travels globally.”
Bryan, in an email, added that Europe is “moving in the right direction in relation to content, with increased interest from larger broadcasters in commissioning more digital first content and (over-the-top) services.
He said the European digital content industry is also moving away from mobile and web series to producing more premium content.
“We hope Gunpowder & Sky International can help kick-start that trend,” Bryan said.
Gunpowder has released or launched digital projects on Spotify, the iTunes store, and YouTube sci-fi network Dust. It will also release feature film “The Little Hours” starring Aubrey Plaza and Alison Brie in theaters on June 30.
