Fortune Magazine is out with its annual issue listing the nation’s 500 largest corporations by revenue – 13 of which call L.A. County home. That’s down one from last year as DirecTV, formerly of El Segundo, was merged into AT&T Corp., which has its headquarters in Dallas, TX.
There was considerable movement of L.A. companies on the list, most notably Aecom, which jumped 187 spots to No. 156 and Molina Healthcare Inc., which jumped up 100 places to No. 201. The largest L.A. company by employees on the list was Walt Disney Co., with 185,000; the smallest was A-Mark Precious Metals Inc. of Santa Monica, with 52.
The count of L.A. companies on the list could go down by one next year if Jacobs Engineering Group moves its official headquarters from Pasadena to the Dallas, Texas area; the company has already moved some corporate operations there.
California had 51 companies on this year’s list, down from 53 last year. But 51 was enough to climb into a tie with Texas for the No. 2 position. New York led the list with 55.
Here are the L.A. County companies on this year’s Fortune 500 list, with one addition: Amgen Inc. of neighboring Thousand Oaks.
