Revel Signs Lease to Bring Chargers Downtown
Outpost: Revel’s flagship fast charging station in Brooklyn, New York City.

New York City-based Revel, the leading provider of public EV fast charging in that metropolis, is coming to downtown Los Angeles.

The urban electric vehicle infrastructure provider signed a lease with SPK Enterprises on a 19,000-square-foot site located at 1233 S. Grand Ave.

Revel plans to develop 42 fast charging stalls on the lot, which neighbors the Crypto.com Arena and Los Angeles Convention Center. According to a release, the station will be the largest EV charging hub in downtown Los Angeles. It is expected to open in 2026.

“Revel is building a portfolio of the largest fast charging stations in America’s biggest cities,” Frank Reig, cofounder and chief executive of Revel, said in a statement. “We’re now officially expanding that footprint to Los Angeles.”

Revel currently operates the largest network of fast charging infrastructure in New York City. The company has 54 fast chargers across three sites spanning the Brooklyn and Queens submarkets and plans to quadruple that network by mid-next year by adding multiple new locations, including a 60-stall station in Queens and a 48-stall station outside LaGuardia Airport.

The company is opening its first downtown Manhattan station later this summer which will bring 10 charging stalls to New York City’s core. Revel also has seven sites in development across the Bay Area.

Founded in 2018, Revel has been growing steadfastly, working in an effort to reduce carbon emissions on the road.

“In the next two years, we’ll have 1,000 fast chargers open across New York City, the Bay Area and Los Angeles,” Reig said in a statement. “This infrastructure will close the urban charging gap and allow everyone from rideshares and last mile delivery fleets, to everyday drivers, to electrify.”

Earlier this year, Revel announced a company partnership with Uber, which aims to make its U.S. ride-hail fleet zero-emission by 2030. Under the partnership, Revel provides Uber drivers discounts up to 25% off at its charging network while Uber has financially guaranteed a minimum utilization across Revel’s existing and future charging stations.

All Revel fast charging stations are open to the public 24 hours a day and can charge Tesla and non-Tesla vehicles alike in a matter of minutes, according to a release. Unlike other EV charging companies, Revel does not require customers to have a unique app, instead offering card readers available on every charger for session activation and payment processing. Revel does not charge any access, parking or other hidden fees.

Revel isn’t the only company interested in EV charging lots in Los Angeles County.

Some of the other local charging lots that have come online or broken ground in recent months are operated by companies like Einride, WattEV, Prologis and Forum Mobility – most of which have catered to drayage and heavy-duty trucks as part of the shipping infrastructure connected with the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach.
