Triumph Group Inc., doing business as Triumph Aerospace Structures, will close two facilities in Hawthorne and Torrance and lay off roughly 250 employees, according to filings submitted to the California Economic Development Department.

Triumph, which is headquartered in Berwyn, Pa., plans to permanently shutter its facilities at 3901 Jack Northrop Ave. in Hawthorne and 640 Alaska Ave. in Torrance on Dec. 6.

The roles to be eliminated by the plant closures mostly affect workers in Triumph’s mechanical engineering and assembly departments. The cuts were detailed in a Sept. 26 filing with the EDD.

Triumph contracts with military and commercial aircraft operators to design, manufacture and repair aerospace and defense technology.

The company still maintains an assembly and testing facility in Valencia, Calif. and is actively hiring in that location, according to its website.

The company also announced Oct. 10 it is selling an assembly facility in Nashville to TECT Aerospace for an undisclosed sum.

Triumph filed its first quarter 2020 results in July – its fiscal year ended June 30 – and reported $18.1 million in net income on $730.2 million in sales, roughly a 6% growth in revenue from that time the year prior.
