3Diligent begins offering consulting services; Hulu reports majority of users pay for ads; Hollywood experiments with AI to measure impact of key filmmaking decisions.

Cinelytic Brings AI to the Big Screen

According to the Verge, Hollywood studios are increasingly embracing AI. Los Angeles-based Cinelytic is selling a platform powered by artificial intelligence that lets directors and casting managers experiment with the outcome of potential hires. Cinelytic’s technology allows users to compare numerous facets of a film, including what a movie might gross at the box office with one star as a lead instead of another.

Hulu Reports Subscriber Figures

Roughly 70 percent of Hulu’s business pays the lowest subscription tier the company offers and streams TV with ads. According to Variety, Hulu Senior Vice President Peter Naylor said the balance between those who pay for the zero-ad subscription and the ad-supported version is difficult to strike, as Hulu does rely on ads for revenue. Pushing subscribers to a non-advertising version of the site might net Hulu a few extra dollars per month from the subscriber, but it would impact Hulu’s ad sales, which helped the Santa Monica company pull in $1.5 billion in revenue last year.

3Diligent Begins Offering Consulting

El Segundo-based 3D printing and manufacturing firm 3Diligent expanded its business to include a consultancy that will provide “strategic and design advisory services for the additive manufacturing industry,” Socaltech reports. The new outfit, 3Diligent Consulting, will work to help companies better understand and execute manufacturing with 3D printing.
