BioSolar expands to Spain; Sprint Corp. phone rival emerges; Riot Games goes down under

BioSolar Expands to Spain

Santa Clarita alternative energy company BioSolar Inc. disclosed June 19 that it had signed an agreement with a Spanish subsidiary of Ferroglobe PLC. The deal is to market and develop silicon anone that will be used in rechargeable lithium ion batteries. The San Fernando Valley Business Journal reports BioSolar’s main asset is its patented technology for extending lithium battery life; and at the end of day June 19 after the announcement, its shares were up more than 90 percent at closing bell.

Sprint Corp. Phone Rival Emerges

Unreal Mobile, a Los Angeles-based cell phone provider and subsidiary of FreedomPop Inc., is looking to capture some Sprint Corp. customers in the L.A. area. The company announced Wednesday that it will offer unlimited mobile plans for $10 per month. Unreal Mobile also claims anyone with a CDMA phone can use the service. Socal Tech reports this announcement came after Sprint took away its $15 monthly plans only one week after instating them. According to Sprint, they retracted the offer because demand for the low-priced unlimited plan was too great.

Riot Games Goes Down Under

West Los Angeles’ Riot Games Inc., maker of the popular “League of Legends” game, signed a contract June 20 with the Melbourne Esports Open. The contract will place Riot Games and “League of Legends” as the headliner of the Esports Open finals until 2022, IGN reports. The Australian Esports festival takes place September 1-2. This is the second Australian partnership Riot Games announced recently. The company also solidified a deal in May with the Australian Football League to bring a “League of Legends” championship tournament to its stadium this year.
