SpaceX Launches First Israeli Lunar Lander
Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies Corp. launched Israel’s first lunar lander from Cape Canaveral, Fla. Feb. 21, alongside a telecommunications satellite for Indonesia and a U.S. Air Force-developed experimental satellite. Once the lander touches down, it will solidify Israel’s status as the fourth nation in the world to achieve a controlled landing on the moon. The lander is the first privately built craft to attempt a moon landing, according to Reuters.
Dave Hagan, chief executive of Westwood-based Wi-Fi provider Boingo Wireless, will retire effective March 18 and pass on his post to former board member Mike Finley, the Business Journal reports. Hagan will remain a member of Boingo’s board, but pass on his chairman seat to Lance Rozenzweig. Before agreeing to a role with Boingo, Finley led the Australian and North American divisions of San Diego-based wireless technology developer Qualcomm Technologies Inc. for nine years.
Base Hologram Cancels Amy Winehouse Hologram Tour
Amid concerns of accurately representing the late singer Amy Winehouse’s “theatrical stagecraft” and “incredible artistic and social contributions,” Hollywood-headquartered Base Hologram has scrapped plans for a hologram tour with Winehouse’s likeness. The tour will be “on hold” indefinitely until Base Hologram is satisfied with a “production that would properly honor Amy’s legacy at its highest caliber,” the company told Variety. Originally, proceeds of the tour were to be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which raises awareness of drug addiction and prevention.
