NASA Scrutinizes SpaceX Safety

NASA is paying Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies Corp. $2.6 billion to construct rocket capsule launch systems capable of bringing humans to the International Space Station, but the March 2 test launch date may be in jeopardy due to safety concerns. Reuters reports NASA analyzed the crafts of both SpaceX and Boeing, and found over 30 safety flaws in each, posing “serious challenges to the launch schedules.” The main concerns listed by NASA was SpaceX’s current practice of fueling the rocket with the crew already inside, a procedure it dubs “load-and-go,” as well as parachute performance.

Loop Media Acquires ScreenPlay

Burbank’s newest entrant to the streaming service scene, Loop Media, announced Feb. 21 it acquired ScreenPlay Inc., a trailer licensing platform, for an undisclosed sum. TechCrunch reports Loop Media plans to launch a streaming app within the next six months, under the watchful eye of Chief Executive Jon Niermann, a former Disney Co. and Electronic Arts Inc. executive.

Hello Sunshine Gains New Funding

Female-focused production house Hello Sunshine, founded by Reese Witherspoon, announced Feb. 20 a new funding round led by AT&T Inc. subsidiary Otter Media. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the investment value is not yet disclosed, but other investors included Laurene Powell Jobs’ venture capital firm Emerson Collective. Otter Media has supported Hello Sunshine since the company’s incorporation three years ago.
