Kunlun Group Limited Completes Acquisition of Grindr

Hong Kong-based mobile gaming company Kunlun Group Limited has closed on its purchase of the remaining stake of Grindr LLC, a gay men’s dating app located in West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center, the companies announced Monday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Grindr Co-Founder and Chief Executive Joel Simkhai will leave the company, and Grindr Board Chairman Yahui Zhou will serve as interim chief executive. Grindr’s current vice chairman Wei Zhou has been elevated to executive vice chairman and chief financial officer. Former Facebook and Instagram engineering manager Scott Chen will serve as chief technology officer.

“We have achieved our success because of the strength and global reach of our community,” Simkhai said in a statement. “I look forward to Grindr and Kunlun’s continued commitment to building tolerance, equality and respect around the world.”

According the statement, Grindr has more than 3.3 million active users around the world.
