Leaders from L.A.’s tech, venture capital and entrepreneur communities and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. on Tuesday announced they will join forces to promote the region as an innovation center and spur job creation.
The organization is an updated version of former mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Council on Innovation and Industry, launched two years ago. Tuesday’s relaunch turns the organization into a freestanding non-profit with an expanded membership and a new partnership with the LAEDC.
The new organization, called inLA, is comprised of leaders of technology companies, venture capital firms, serial entrepreneurs, local universities and professional service firms in partnership with the LAEDC. It is co-chaired by David Hernand, partner in the Los Angeles office of tech-oriented law firm Cooley; and Zack Zalon, managing partner of Wilshire Axon, a Westwood digital design firm.
Other prominent executives on inLA’s executive council include Howard Marks, co-chairman of accelerator StartEngine; Todd Gitlin, founder of executive search firm Saffire Partners and former Disney executive and serial entrepreneur Jake Winebaum, now chief executive of online dental service Brighter.com.
