Business of Sports: Crowded Field
Fans and teams like the L.A. Galaxy reflect the city’s hunger for more sports.

L.A.’s sports industry is as robust as ever, and teams and venues are getting highly strategic in how they compete for lucrative deals and fans’ devotion. With almost every sport represented in some capacity in L.A. — and multiple teams for some — it’s seems like a crowded field. But sports business leaders in L.A. say the market has global appeal, so there are plenty of fans, sponsorships and opportunities to pursue.

Looking to capitalize on the enthusiasm — and make sure they stay relevant — existing venues are rethinking how they can accommodate different types of events as new sports facilities open up across the county. And all the while the competition for space and attention feels friendly, underscored by a shared desire to see L.A. reach a new level as a leading sports market.
