Sawtelle-based PlayVS is bringing organized esports competitions to high schools and colleges so that schools can build teams around such games as “Rocket League” and “NBA 2K” as easily as creating a basketball program. Prior to founding PlayVS in 2018, Parnell worked at IncWell Venture Capital as the youngest Black venture capitalist in the U.S. and was an early employee at Detroit-based internet service provider Rocket Fiber. The company has also developed partnerships with major game publishers, including Activision Blizzard, 2K and Psyonix.
