Hamilton founded Backstage Capital in 2015. The venture capital firm is dedicated to investing in high-potential founders who are underrepresented and marginalized. It has raised more than $15 million and invested in more than 170 startups led by women, people of color and LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs. Hamilton, a Texas native who previously experienced homelessness and food insecurity, is also the author of “It’s About Damn Time,” a book that details her personal journey and entry into the world of venture capital. She launched a series of scholarships in 2020, including the Arlan Hamilton & Earline Butler Scholarship, which supports Black students.
