Xos Signs Deals to Supply E-Trucks

Xos Inc. announced recently that it had signed deals with two leasing companies to provide its electric trucks.

Xos, which is based in Atwater Village, said in early August that it had signed a dealership agreement and initial delivery contract with Gabrielli Truck Sales to offer the suite of Xos vehicles to customers across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Then, two weeks later, the company said it entered into a partnership with NationalLease, one of the largest truck-leasing organizations in the country; it operates more than 900 locations and has more than 165,000 vehicles in its fleet, according to a release from Xos.

Both deals expand the reach of Xos, a publicly traded company that started out in North Hollywood before relocating several years ago to Atwater Village, where it develops its electric trucks and software.

The company offers Fleet-as-a-Service —a bundled package that provides vehicle-ownership services to fleet operators for a fixed monthly fee — in coordination with partners such as DLL Group for financing services and Dickinson Fleet Services for vehicle maintenance.

The Fleet-as-a-Service package aggregates otherwise fragmented offerings and is projected to significantly increase Xos’ lifetime revenue per vehicle, according to a release from the company.

Gabrielli will sell Xos’ flagship Class 5 and 6 stepvan, along with its recently debuted medium-duty Class 6 and7 chassis cab MDXT and heavy-duty Class 8 electric trailer HDXT, the release said.

Jessica Savage, head of distribution at Xos, said that the company was thrilled to expand its footprint in the northeast.
“Having been around since 1966, the Gabrielli team is widely recognized for its long-standing truck sales and service leadership in the east,” Savage said in a statement.

“Xos is a clear leader in the commercial sector for electric trucks, so we’re very excited to offer their vehicles to our network for customers and continue helping fleets of all sizes make the move from diesel to electric,” added Romolo Gabrielli, general manager of Gabrielli, in the statement.

NationalLease, based in Downers Grove, Illinois, will now offer Xos vehicles and services, including Xos’ proprietary Xosphere fleet-management software, which adds more end-user capabilities such as telematics, vehicle tracking and battery health management, the Xos release said.

“We’re thrilled to continue growing our leasing and distribution network with this partnership with NationaLease,” Savage continued in her statement. “NationaLease is widely recognized as one of the top leasing groups in the country and their support will help expand our footprint across North America.”

Dean Vicha, president of NationaLease, said the firm was pleased to partner with Xos and do its part to support the widespread growth of commercial fleet electrification.
“This partnership will help us meet customer demand and ultimately help maintain a more long-lasting and sustainable standard for commercial transportation,” Vicha said in a statement.
