Westside Gets The Now

A new retail destination is nearing completion on the Westside. The Now is a recently transformed 40,000-square-foot urban oasis, on the edge of Brentwood and Sawtelle.

The property, located at 11819 Wilshire Blvd., used to be an “undiscerning convenience center,” according to a release from Beta Agency, which oversees the leasing for the property.

Through redevelopment which started in 2019, the property’s architecture has been completely modernized to transform its look and feel.

Inspired by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi, the unique aesthetic was designed to evoke a Zen-like atmosphere, with a redesigned focus for health and wellness.

The new center lies among many office buildings in the area, including Wilshire Westgate, West Wilshire Center, Wilshire Landmark I, Wilshire Landmark II, Barrington Plaza, Wells Fargo Center, The Vintage Capital Building, Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care and University High School.

“I envision The Now as a place for people in the community to gather, connect and experience,” Jeff Appel, developer and vice president of The Now, said in a statement. “By incorporating the unique needs of Angelenos situated in a densely populated landscape, our aim is to stay adaptive, accessible and serve the community as a driving force for economic growth, while offering unmatched experiences for customers and retailers alike.”

Operating retailers at the site include CorePower Yoga, Pure Barre, Subway and a dental office on the second floor. All the other spaces are vacant, and Beta is in the process of speaking to interested tenants to fill the remaining availabilities.
