Bagel Shop Makes Its LA Debut

Berkeley-based Boichik Bagels opens its first Los Angeles-area location in Los Feliz.

Boichik Bagels has opened its first location in Los Angeles.

The store at 4655 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Feliz is currently in a soft open in advance of its grand opening on March 2. The shop features a dine-in space, a patio and takeout options for customers on the go.

Boichik Bagels was originally conceived by Emily Winston, an Ivy League-educated engineer, on a mission to make an authentic New York Bagel on the West Coast. She opened her first store in Berkeley in 2019 and now has other locations in the Bay Area. The Los Feliz store is her first outside of the San Francisco area.

“We are excited to be a part of the diverse and dynamic culinary culture of L.A. and bring a taste of authentic, New York-style bagels to the heart of the city,” Winston said in a statement. “Our team is dedicated to crafting the highest quality bagels, made fresh daily, akin to the bagels I grew up loving in New York and New Jersey.”

The 3,000-square foot shop in Los Feliz is expected to sell, on average, about 1,500 bagels in a day. And it isn’t the only shop to be located in Los Angeles.

Winston hopes to open another Boichik in the historic Bradbury Building in downtown in April, with other locations to be determined.
