Santa Monica-based development firm Redcar Ltd. recently unveiled its latest completed project, a 38,900-square-foot ground-up, mixed-use commercial complex located at 1640 14th St. in Santa Monica.
Located in a historically industrial neighborhood, on the site of a former tow yard, the three-story urban infill project features three floors of creative office space plus a ground-level, street-facing restaurant. It was designed by the Santa Monica studio of Minnesota-based architecture firm HGA.
Designing project to address occupant needs
According to HGA, the building’s design was meant to address the health and productivity of its occupants, by increasing walkability and blending indoor and outdoor experiences.
A garden paseo connects the development to a nearby park. Private outdoor terraces are integrated on all floors for tenant use and joined together by one rooftop patio.
“1640 14th St. is a great example of a hybridized property strategically designed to bring together individuals and businesses in a thriving community hub, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the neighborhood will put it to its best use,” John Frane, design principal at HGA and the project’s lead architect, said in a statement.
In addition to Redcar and HGA, other project partners included Del Amo Construction, Nous Engineering, AMA Consulting Services, KPFF, McCullough Landscape Architecture and Luminescence Design.
