Kroenke Plans for Studios at Hollywood Park

Los Angeles Rams and SoFi Stadium owner Stan Kroenke plans to break ground on Hollywood Park Studios, which will host the 2028 Olympics broadcasters, this month.

The growth of Hollywood Park in Inglewood will continue this summer with the groundbreaking of what will initially be the broadcast headquarters of the 2028 Olympics before reverting to a film production studio.

Construction on Hollywood Park Studios is slated to kick off this month and will join the likes of SoFi Stadium, the YouTube Theater and NFL Media’s office building in filling out the media and entertainment element of the development. Hollywood Park developer and Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke said he was “thrilled” to expand the role Hollywood Park will play in the forthcoming Olympics.

“The vision for Hollywood Park has always been to build a city within a city combining media, entertainment and technology that will transform the greater Los Angeles area,” Kroenke said in a statement. “Beyond 2028, Hollywood Park Studios will be open to welcome a new industry to our live, work, play destination and bring a little bit of Hollywood to Hollywood Park.”

SoFi Stadium is already slated to play a major role in LA28, the designation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will share hosting duties for the Olympics with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and fully host the Paralympics opening ceremony. During the games, SoFi will also host what will be the largest-ever swimming venue for the Olympics.

“LA28 is proud to be the inaugural tenant of this new state-of-the-art studio in the heart of Inglewood, a key venue city for the 2028 Games,” said LA28 Chief Executive Reynold Hoover in a statement. “The International Broadcast Center will serve as one of our first fully operational facilities for the games, capturing every inspiring moment of the LA28 Games. We’re excited to collaborate with our valued partners at Hollywood Park, the Olympic Broadcasting Services, International Olympic Committee, and International Paralympic Committee to create a world-class broadcast hub that will showcase the best of Los Angeles to billions of viewers.”

Kroenke’s development spree continues

The first phase of the new project will add five sound stages on 12 acres of the 300-acre development; each stage will be about 18,000 square feet, with two of them able to combine to double the space. Additionally, it will add a three-story 80,000-square-foot building to house production support activity and an 1,100 space parking structure.

That garage will include a 20-foot-high bay area that can house and power up to 60 trailers for film production. The studio center also will offer equipment rental for producers.

Future stages include options for up to 20 additional build-to-suit stages and an additional 200,000 square feet of office space with added parking. All phases of Hollywood Park Studios will be plugged into the existing fiber optic network that the rest of Hollywood Park utilizes.

This latest announcement follows Kroenke’s revealed plans for the three parcels of Woodland Hills property he spent most of 2022 scooping up. After converting a portion of it to a temporary practice facility for the Rams last year, Kroenke plans to make that facility permanent with the team’s new headquarters, along with a host of other entertainment venues, recreational spaces, retails centers and density residential complexes.

Hollywood Park also continues to gradually come online as retailers move into storefronts there. The main complex is anchored by a

Cinépolis movie theater that includes an IMAX screen, sports entertainment venue Cosm and an Iconix Fitness gym facility. Hollywood Park Casino has been active since 2016.

Gensler, an architecture and design firm popular with Kroenke, is handling design work for Hollywood Park Studios. Clayco is the general contractor, while Pacific Edge will manage the project. Guggenheim Investments provided financing.
