LA Plaza Village, an expansive development that provides residential and retail space, has opened in Chinatown.
The complex is the result of a public-private partnership between LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Museum, Los Angeles County, Trammell Crow Co., its subsidiary High Street Residential, and the Cesar Chavez Foundation.
The four-building site spans two blocks. It includes 355 apartments, 20% of which are affordable units. It also has 43,000 square feet of retail and a pedestrian area.
“LA Plaza Village is as much about connectivity and open space for the public as it is about a needed supply of market rate and affordable residential apartments,” Brad Cox of Trammell Crow said in a statement.
The project was designed by downtown architecture firm Johnson Fain Inc. Santa Monica-based Morley Builders Inc. was the general contractor. CBRE Group Inc.’s Derrick Moore is leasing the retail space.
LA Plaza Village features murals from local artists Judithe Hernández, Miguel Angel Reyes, Jose Lozano and Barbara Carrasco.
LA Plaza Village took four years to build, employing more than 3,400 people during construction.
