A $56.4 million bridge financing loan was given for the redevelopment of the Herald Examiner Building in downtown L.A., HFF announced Jan. 18.

HFF’s Todd Sugimoto, Jeff Sause and Spencer Richley represented The Georgetown Company, the project’s developer.

The loan was provided by J.P. Morgan.

“We’re thrilled to continue our longstanding relationship with The Georgetown Company and work with key industry players like HFF, providing our deep industry expertise to support the redevelopment of the Herald Examiner building,” said Matt Felsot, west regional manager for real estate banking at J.P. Morgan, in a statement.

In August, Arizona State University announced that it had leased the majority of the 100,000-square-foot building. ASU will not move in until 2020. The building will also have retail and restaurant space.

“It’s an honor to partner with both HFF and J.P. Morgan on this project,” said Michael Fischer, vice president of Georgetown, in a statement. “Their teams have been incredibly professional and effective through the whole process. We have always been very confident in the growth of the South Broadway Corridor and the strength of the downtown market overall. This announcement is a key step towards bringing back this iconic property in all its former glory.”

The building, located at 1111 S. Broadway, was built in 1914 as the headquarters of the Los Angeles Examiner.
