Happy anniversary. To us.

We’re generally a modest bunch at the Business Journal, but we didn’t want to let 2019 come to a close without letting slip that this was a milestone year around here.

The Business Journal was founded in 1979, which means this is our 40th year of tracking the people and companies that make L.A. one of the world’s most vibrant and important business communities.

And while we’re at it, give yourselves a pat on the back. Whether you’ve been with us for all four decades, you’ve just recently signed on, or you land somewhere in between, we appreciate your support.

Wishing Lachlan Murdoch a happy housewarming at his modest new abode, a $150 million estate in Bel-Air. Known to some as Chartwell and to most as the “Beverly Hillbillies” house, the property’s 25,000-square-foot mansion was used for exterior shots in the long-running CBS sitcom.

The late media titan A. Jerrold Perenchio, who died in 2017, called the property home for more than 30 years. Last week’s purchase by Murdoch, co-chairman of News Corp., sets a record price for California and ranks as the second-highest home sale in the United States.
